Community: GPD Identity & Vehicle Theft Prevention AND Child Passenger Safety Seat Inspection/Instal

By: Grapevine PD

Tomorrow, Saturday, May 25th , 2013 between 9AM and 2PM, the Grapevine Police Department in conjunction with Data Shredding Services, will offer residents the opportunity to have unwanted confidential documents properly discarded and shredded free of charge across the street from the Police Department, 307 W Dallas Rd. The Police Department will also be conducting VIN Etching and Child Passenger Safety Seat Inspections/Installations at the event. The event will once again be assisted by Grapevine Police Citizens Police Academy Alumni and members of the departments V.I.P.S. The CPA Alumni will also be holding a bake sale.

VIN Etching enables the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) to be permanently etched (acid etch) into the major windows of a vehicle at free of charge to Grapevine residents. VIN etching is a theft deterrent and may entitle you to an auto insurance premium discount. Texas ranks number two in the nation in auto theft, with a vehicle stolen every five minutes. The top five consistently stolen vehicles in Texas are Ford, Chevrolet and Dodge pickups, Honda Accord and Honda Civic.

This process makes the VIN easily accessible for law enforcement officers to identify your vehicle, discouraging criminal from stealing your vehicle due to the ease at which it can now be traced.

Child Passenger Safety Seat Inspection enables parents and caregivers to receive education and hands-on assistance with the proper use of child restraint systems and seat belts. Texas law now requires children who are under 8 years old, who are not yet 4'9" tall, are required to ride in a booster seat or other approved car seat.

Please join in the fun and bring the children so we can help you keep them safe. We will have activity and coloring books for the kiddos, stickers, give-aways and safety literature.
